SEK’s operational actions against illegal
trade are significantly strengthened due to state-of-the-art logistical
equipment added to its existing infrastructure.
During the donation ceremonialfor the
handover of the equipment by British American Tobacco Hellas to SEK and the
signing of the relevant agreement, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr.
Apostolos Vesyropoulos, stated: "This is a common fight in which the public and private
sectorsgive together. The new equipment, complyingwith the most modern
technology specs, comes at the most appropriate time, at a time when we are
strengthening our efforts to combat smuggling, through the implementation of
the operational upgrade of SEK".
TheGovernoroftheIndependentAuthorityforPublicRevenue, Mr. GeorgePitsilis, stated: "ΙΑPR, having
under its responsibility the operation of SEK, is satisfied both with the
successes achieved recently due to SEK contribution to the fight against
smuggling, as well as with the support offered by the private sector through
donations, such as the one received today".
For his part, the President and CEO of
British American Tobacco Hellas, Mr. VitaliiKochenko, said: "The efforts
made to combat illegal trade are intensifying and are already bringing
significant results. In this great effort, our Group, as it has always done,
continues its support, contributing to the battle fought by the
authorities".
The mission of S.E.K., in which the
Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR) (having also the responsibility
for its operation), the Financial Crime Unit (S.D.O.E.), the Hellenic Police,
the Hellenic Coast Guard, the National Transparency Authority and the Ministry
of Development and Investments, are represented, is to tackle the smuggling of
products subject to Excise Duty and Consumption Tax, through
the coordination of the competent law enforcement authorities acting as a force
multiplier.
